Step #1 Set a clear and realistic goal

In everything we do, setting a goal should always come first because it will serve as your motivation to continue. This is also true when you want to get rid of tummy fat; if you are extremely obese who could hardly even stand up on your own, it would be unrealistic to get rid of those massive fat in a week. When setting up a goal, consider SMART – specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time bounded. If you are quite big, you may aim to lose 5-10 pounds per week, however you have to remember that the amount of weight you could lose decreases as you trim down.

Step #2 Plan a healthy weekly menu

There are a lot of free online calorie calculators available that you can use to compute the amount of calories of the different foods you will be eating for the week. It would be great to plan ahead of time so you won’t be calculating calories in front of the waiter as you order and still end up consuming more calories than your body needs. Early planning allows you to save time and helps you to stay within your daily calorie requirement. If you have bulging tummy fat, a low calorie diet is highly recommended and if you just want to avoid getting a tummy fat, sticking within your daily calorie requirement is the way to go.

Step #3 Get your regular dose of exercise

Doing workouts may sound boring and tiring, but it is the best way to lose belly fat. When a person works out, the body will need to burn the stored fats to be converted to energy so the activity can be accomplished. The best exercises to get rid of the tummy fat are aerobic exercises which includes treadmills, stationary bikes, ski machines, and elliptical trainers. These exercises are very effective because it improves your oxygen system. According to the principles of indirect calorimetry, calories are burned faster with higher oxygen level. This explains why the amount of calories burned in doing different exercises vary.

Tip #4 Tone abdominal muscles

If you have already slimmed down from doing aerobic exercises, you may proceed with abdomen specific exercises. In choosing your abs workout, consider the muscles targeted by that specific workout; make sure that it works on the three major abdominal muscles namely the rectus abdominis, external oblique, and the transverse abdominis. Sure you wanted to get the much coveted six packs but there is actually more to abs workout than that. Abdominal workouts help in strengthening your core and back as well as improving your posture, this means less back pain.

You have to know that abs workout like crunches do not really make you lose the tummy fat, but it could help in toning your muscles which can be very beneficial to your over-all health. If you are obese, this workout is not recommended because it will not help you lose fat, hence it could only cause back and neck pain.

Tip #5 Continue living healthy

When you have already achieved the flat tummy or six packs that you have always dreamed of, do not go back to your sedentary lifestyle and uncontrolled eating. Continue eating a balanced diet and doing regular workouts to keep that body in shape and live a healthier and longer life.
